Artists Statement

Artistically I find myself influenced by both historical and contemporary artists. I love the high contrast, shadowy imagery of Caravaggio, and I like to draw from the odd stylistic choices and overall strangeness of David Lynch in the creation of my work. These two brought new creativity to my work and life that frankly, I had not had prior to beginning my artistic journey. I always found myself thinking about what fine art is, and how it can influence someones life and surroundings. Easy, self-reflection through art in a productive manner. Now, I have struggled with depression my entire life, it is something that looms over me like a ghost waiting to haunt me at every single waking moment, and yet, I have seen how art can define said emotions and help one reflect on what truly matters to them. In a way, my art pieces and photography are meant to invoke feelings of sadness, loneliness, and disappointment. Now, someone might ask "Why dwell on something so bleak when you could easily find something cheery to devote your life to?" Well, I believe that currently, nobody is willing to talk about their own problems, nor are they willing to address the societal problems that plague us on a daily basis. I want the viewer of my work to look upon these art pieces and reflect on how they feel, figure out what emotion is at the heart of their own problems, and if societal norms and standards are on par with the great American dream. It is often said that art can be considered a therapeutic outlet for those going through hardships, I, as the creative mind behind the work, often find that said fragility can be explored through the simple looking glass of a camera lens or through the strangeness of conceptual art pieces. This is my craft and my own personal therapy, and would love to touch other lives with it in a way that is also meaningful and just as therapeutic as it is for me.
